Learning To Love Fitness

For the longest time, I struggled to find a type of exercise that I enjoyed. When I first moved down South I joined Fitness First and whilst it was fine when I had someone there to give me a pep talk, the moment I was left alone I’d completely lose my confidence. I found myself going less and less, I didn’t feel like I had the knowledge to push myself, so for me, I felt like there was no point.

Then I came across a post advertising the Fitness Experts and their six-day bootcamp trial, and whilst I am very aware that it was a sponsored post, I like to believe that it was a message from the fitness gods.

What is Fitness Experts?

Fitness Experts is a bootcamp style gym, where the focus is on fast-paced, fun and functional sessions. The classes are split into Bootcamp (which changes daily), Build and Burn, MetCon and Spinning. With classes running between 6am and 8.15pm there is a time to suit most. You do need to book each class in advance online, but I’ve always found the process really simple and the option to reschedule is useful for days when I can’t get out of work on time!


The Classes 

The first thing I noticed when I went to Fitness Experts was the vast array of equipment – kettlebells, TRX, battle ropes, sleds, free weights, slam balls… and even a turf sprint track in the middle! It quickly became clear that this was no hangout space.


The bootcamp theme changes daily, which means you will never be doing the same thing twice. One day the focus will be on strength, the next endurance. However no matter the theme there’s always a really good sense of teamwork. You’re bound to leave smiling and very, very sweaty!

Build and Burn

The focus is on heavy weights and low reps in this class, as with all the other classes the exercises are scaled according to ability and objectives, so there’s no need to worry about keeping up with other people, you can just focus on your goals!


Metabolic Conditioning is a HIIT style workout, very high cardio!

Indoor Cycling

The usual spinning set up with booming tunes and the odd rave light, 30 minutes fly by!


The results

Over the past 7 months, I have been attending 2-3 classes per week. As a previously self-confessed gym hater, I think that’s proof enough of their powers.

Whilst there have certainly been times where I’ve wished I didn’t have a class, there’s never been a time that I’ve thought ‘I wish I hadn’t bothered’. The mix of camaraderie from the other members and the support of the trainers makes every class a complete pleasure.

The greatest thing about the classes for me is to be able to challenge myself in a safe environment. In fact today I deadlifted 80kg, something I wouldn’t have been able to do a few months ago, and something I certainly wouldn’t have been trying on my own! I leave every class feeling like I’m walking on air, mainly because I’m so happy I took myself out of my comfort zone, but occasionally because I literally cannot feel my legs.

As with every good thing, it comes at a price and the Fitness Experts pricing is in my opinion towards the higher end. But if your serious about your fitness goals and in the Basingstoke or High Wycombe area then I cannot recommend it enough.
